And this is why I don’t say no to a party. You never know who you’re gonna see, what you’ll eat and drink, or where you’re going to be. Which in this case was Padma Lakshmi from Top Chef, truffles and wine, and….where actually wasn’t a crucial part of that night.
Sterling Wines was having a little holiday soiree of some sort and I knew the right people. April and I went, simply expecting to find some good wine. The wine was more than just delicious. We sampled not only regular reds and whites, but we also had a summer punch and spiced wine. My kind of Monday night.
The premise behind the whole party (that we slowly pieced together with more drinks) was a kind of competition. There were 4 areas, each decorated with a certain theme. Three of them featured food (cheese, meat type of platters), cookies, and other sweets (truffles made with wine, chocolate cashews, we were in heaven). In those stations, you grabbed a basket, filled it up with your choosing and left happier (and heavier). We made some AMAZING (no I’m not kidding, we were proud of these puppies) baskets, but I’ll return to that*.
The fourth station was a kind of an engagement station. Sign a book, take photos….all for a real couple (I will never get these things, but fun to do never the less!). While we were signing our page, Padma came to review this station. See…she was the judge of this whole shindig (and hence her reason for being there). I did not get to talk to her, but I was close enough to take this (note: I did not take the bottom picture).
*I know you want to know what happened to our wonderfully arranged baskets. Well, while Padma was near and camera crews were flocking left and right, we (briefly) abandoned them (come on, supermodel near by, what would you do?). So alas, our awesome goodies mysteriously disappeared. Still mourning this loss.
I love old t-shirts. Especially old t-shirts of mine (or of special significance). Especially if they’re colored with stains and holes from wear. I just can’t part with them until they become a tattered mess.
One week till Friend Fest 2011. This is when Noah, April’s friends, and more friends are all in town the same weekend. And….even better: it’s Santa Con. Until then, I’m going to try (key word) to take it easy and rest up.
